Nutritionist named a dangerous habit that ruins digestion and teeth

Washing down food with juices, sweet drinks, or soda is highly undesirable, as it can cause many health problems. Nutritionist and dietitian Nadezhda Litvinova-Grazion told "Gazeta.Ru" about this in an interview.
According to the specialist, first of all, the risk of digestive disorders increases. Acids contained in juices and sweet sodas irritate the stomach lining, especially when consumed simultaneously with food.
"Juices and carbonated drinks often contain large amounts of simple sugars. They are quickly absorbed, causing a sharp spike in blood glucose levels, which creates an additional burden on the pancreas. For people with impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, this is particularly dangerous," the doctor explained.
In addition, sweet drinks are a source of "empty" calories: they provide energy but contain almost no beneficial substances, including fiber. Such calories are often not taken into account, but over time lead to excess total calorie intake and weight gain.
Also, carbonated and sweet drinks negatively affect the condition of teeth, contributing to the destruction of enamel.
"Long-term consumption of such drinks increases the risk of obesity, metabolic syndrome, type two diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases," warned the specialist.
As an alternative, she recommended including water in the diet (including mineral and carbonated water without additives), as well as unsweetened herbal or flavored teas.
