Doctors have explained the dangers of high heels

Wearing high heels with a narrow toe leads to a wave-like arrangement of the toes: the middle ones rise up, while the first and fifth go down. This position causes compression of blood vessels and nerves, which can result in numbness, leg pain, and impaired blood circulation. Kirill Kazakov, PhD in Medical Sciences, told "Gazeta.Ru" about this.
According to the specialist, heels distort the natural biomechanics of the foot: the center of gravity shifts, and the support points change. This increases the likelihood of injuries - from bruises and sprains to fractures.
Constant pressure on the front part of the foot can lead to toe deformation, ingrown nails, calluses, and the development of flat feet. The first toe suffers especially: prolonged pressure often ends with the formation of hallux valgus deformity ("bunion").
Kazakov emphasized that the harm from heels extends not only to the front part of the foot but also to the middle and back sections. This affects the shock-absorbing function of the foot - the ability to cushion impacts when contacting the surface. Disruption of this function can eventually lead to diseases of the knee, hip, and other joints.
To minimize consequences, the doctor recommends walking in heels slowly and with small steps, avoiding soft and uneven surfaces such as soil or lawns, and being especially careful on stairs. At the first sign of pain, one should change into more comfortable shoes.
