World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Azerbaijan national team lost to Iceland team

A match of the 1st round of the qualifying stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was held between the national teams of Iceland and Azerbaijan, competing in group D.
As reported by Oxu.Az, the game took place at the "Laugardalsvöllur" stadium in Reykjavik, Iceland and ended with a crushing victory for the hosts with a score of 5:0.
At the 45+2 minute, Victor Paulsson put his team ahead. In the 47th minute, Isak Johannesson doubled Iceland's advantage. In the 56th minute, Johannesson scored his second goal. In the 67th minute, Albert Gudmundsson scored, and the final result of the match was established by Kristian Hlinsson in the 73rd minute.
Note that in the 2nd round, our team will host Ukraine, while the Iceland team will visit France. Both games will take place on Tuesday, September 9.
