Baku is preparing for its role as the Sports Capital of the World in 2026, hosting major international events, expanding sports facilities, and increasing participation in elite sports, youth programs, and social integration initiatives.

It is noted that Baku is strengthening its position on the global sports stage, preparing for its role as the World Sports Capital in 2026. The country has built more than 200 sports facilities, and Azerbaijan's capital continues to host major international competitions and multidisciplinary sporting events. The calendar includes global forums, world championships, and flagship events such as Formula 1.

Local authorities report that women now make up about 40% of athletes in major competitions. Along with elite sports, Azerbaijan is expanding youth engagement, social integration, and volunteer programs, strengthening Baku's reputation as a reliable international sports partner.
