Fernando Santos will leave the post of head coach of the Azerbaijan national team

The head coach of the Azerbaijan national football team Fernando Santos, whose team lost 5:0 in an away match against Iceland in the first game of the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage, will leave his post.

According to information received by Oxu.Az, the contract with the Portuguese specialist will be terminated by mutual agreement.

Recall that Santos has been coaching the Azerbaijan national team since 2024.

If the head coach, with whom a 3+1 year contract was signed, leaves the Azerbaijan national team before the expiration of the agreement, he will receive compensation of 1 million euros for each remaining year.
