Benfica coach fired after defeat to Qarabag
Benfica Lisbon's coach Bruno Lage was dismissed after the defeat in the first round of the Champions League group stage against Azerbaijan's Qarabag.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Record, this was announced to journalists by the president of the "Lisbon Eagles" Rui Costa.
The official noted that, unfortunately, the moment has already come when the team needs to change the head coach.
"Regarding the next coach, we will appoint him before Saturday. This week has been very difficult for all Benfica fans and has left its mark," the publication quotes Costa's words.
Shortly after Costa's press conference, Portuguese media began publishing news that Benfica would invite José Mourinho to the position of head coach.
Recall that the Lisbon club lost at home to Qarabag with a score of 2:3, although the "Eagles" were leading 2:0 by the 16th minute thanks to goals from Barrenechea and Pavlidis.
