Baku is preparing for another important sports competition

Azerbaijan, which holds high authority in the world as a sporting nation, is preparing to host another international tournament, which will take place from October 22 to 30 of this year. For the first time in history, the FIFA U-15 World Championship and Festival will be held in the capital city of Baku.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, hosting this prestigious competition in our country is a natural result of the sports policy implemented by the state under the leadership of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, consistent reforms in this field, efforts to create modern infrastructure, and the expansion of international cooperation.

In accordance with the decree of the head of state "On measures related to hosting in Azerbaijan in 2026 the first FIFA U-15 World Football Championship and Festival," preparation for the tournament has been organized at a high level.

In particular, work at the sports complex in Govsan, where most of the matches will be held, is nearing completion. As part of the tournament, approximately 1,000 matches will be played on the 10 football fields of the new complex.

It is expected that around 4,000 young footballers, coaches, and officials representing FIFA member associations from approximately 190 countries around the world will arrive in Azerbaijan to participate in the tournament.

A few days ago, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, as part of his visit to Azerbaijan, visited the sports complex in Govsan and reviewed the progress of tournament preparations. The FIFA President was provided with detailed information about the preparation for the competition, infrastructure projects, security measures, and organizational matters.

Gianni Infantino highly praised the large-scale organizational work carried out in a short period of time, as well as Azerbaijan's level of readiness to host the tournament.

It should be noted that the new football infrastructure created in Govsan will contribute to the development of children's and youth football in the future.

Azerbaijan's modern sports infrastructure, stability, security, and the rich organizational experience accumulated by the country in recent years create the conditions for hosting large-scale events at a high level in our country. In this regard, the selection of Azerbaijan as the host of the first FIFA U-15 World Championship and Festival is no coincidence.

This tournament also holds special significance in terms of expanding Azerbaijan's cooperation with the international football community, developing children's and youth football, and increasing the younger generation's interest in sports.

As a reminder, the opening ceremony of the tournament and the final match will be held at Baku Crystal Hall.
