The head of Melissa Group faces up to 7 years in prison

The owner of the construction company Melissa Group, Galib Mamedov, who was arrested for illegal demolition of a residential building, has been charged.

As Oxu.Az reports, the businessman has been charged under Article 186.2.1 (intentional destruction of another's property causing significant damage to the victim) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (CC AR).

A question arises: how many years of imprisonment does Galib Mamedov face if his guilt is proven?

Persons who infringe on citizens' property rights are held accountable in accordance with criminal law. In this regard, Article 186 of the CC AR has specific requirements. Thus, according to Article 186.2.1, if the act is committed causing significant damage to the victim, it is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

The Khatai District Court rejected the petition of Galib Mamedov's lawyers for release under house arrest and chose detention as a preventive measure for a period of 1 month.

The contractor and excavator operator Gala Eynullayev has also been held criminally liable in the case. He faces the same charges, and a submission regarding him has been sent to the Khatai District Court. In the near future, a submission on choosing detention as a preventive measure against him will be considered.

Recall that on March 27, employees of the construction company began demolishing a residential building in the Birindzhi Alatava area at 118B Abdulvahab Salamzade Street while residents were still inside. As a result, several people were injured.

The State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture stated that the demolition was carried out without proper permission and without agreement from the residents. The work was stopped, and reports were drawn up in the presence of representatives from competent authorities. The State Committee also noted that materials for conducting an investigation regarding the damage caused to citizens' property during the illegal actions will be submitted to law enforcement agencies.
