Life sentence for triple murder: court delivers verdict in high-profile case

The trial of Mushfig Tagiyev, suspected of an armed attack on a house in the "Jorat Baglary" residential area of Sumgayit city, which resulted in three people killed and three others wounded, has concluded.

As APA reports, today the verdict was announced at the Sumgayit Court for Serious Crimes under the chairmanship of Hafiz Aliyev. The accused received a life sentence.

Recall that on October 28, 2023, around 05:50, as a result of gunfire in one of the private houses in the "Jorat Baglary" residential area of Sumgayit city, two people died - Susana Karakash and Dagbeyi Farajov. During the incident, Tarlan Farajova, Serkan Karakash, as well as neighbors who arrived at the scene - Etibar Sariyev and Mekhman Sariyev were wounded. Later, one of the wounded - S. Karakash, who was transferred to a Turkish hospital, died.

Police officers detained a suspect in the crime. He turned out to be a resident of the residential area, Tagiyev Mushfig Muhammed oglu (born 1987).

The investigation established reasonable suspicions that M. Tagiyev, driven by a thirst for revenge against his neighbor Anar Farajov, broke into the yard of his house and committed a real massacre. He doused the walls with gasoline and set them on fire, after which he detonated an improvised explosive device and opened fire with a firearm.

M. Tagiyev was charged under Articles 120.2.4, 120.2.7 (murder of two or more persons with particular cruelty and in a generally dangerous manner), 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29, 120.2.7 (attempted murder of two persons performing a public duty, with particular cruelty and in a generally dangerous manner), 29,186.2.1, 29,186.2.2 (attempted deliberate destruction of property by arson and explosion causing significant damage), 228.1, 228.4 (illegal acquisition and carrying of firearms and cold weapons), and 229.1, 229.4 (illegal manufacture of explosive devices, gas weapons, cold weapons) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, and at the request of the investigating authority and the submission of the prosecutor supervising the preliminary investigation, the court decided to impose a preventive measure in the form of arrest.
