A harsh sentence handed down in Baku for the rapist of a 9-year-old girl

In Baku, the trial of 37-year-old Ramin Asadov (here and below, names and surnames are conditional - ed.), accused of repeated sexual violence against his 9-year-old stepdaughter Ayla, has concluded.

The crimes were committed when the girl's mother, R.Asadov's partner, was in a state of alcohol intoxication. The frightened child did not dare to tell anyone about what was happening for a long time, but at one point, the mother caught her partner in the act of indecent behavior.

Unable to contain her emotions, the woman stabbed the rapist with a knife. The wounded R.Asadov managed to get to the hospital.

By court decision, the woman was given a punishment not involving imprisonment.

As for R.Asadov, he did not agree with the charges brought against him in court under Article 150.3.3 (violent acts of a sexual nature committed against a person known to the perpetrator to be under the age of fourteen) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The man also stated that his partner demanded 300 manats, and when he refused her, she slandered him. However, witness testimonies and expert examinations confirmed the suspect's guilt.

The Baku Court for Serious Crimes sentenced R.Asadov to 16 years of imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a strict regime correctional colony.
