Visit of the US Embassy to Baku Steel Company: new horizons after API certification

In March and April 2025, a delegation from the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, consisting of staff responsible for trade and economic cooperation, made a series of business visits to the production facilities of Baku Steel Company CJSC (hereinafter - BSC). The visit program covered the steel plant in Baku, as well as the pipe rolling (Azerboru) and ferroalloy (AzFerAl) production sites in the city of Sumgait.

The purpose of the visit was to get detailed acquaintance with the company's production capacities, raw materials used, technological processes, and manufactured products. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the prospects for exporting BSC products to the United States of America.

The parties paid special attention to compliance with international quality standards. BSC recently successfully passed an audit conducted by the American Petroleum Institute (API), as a result of which the company received the API Spec Q1 certificate - one of the most authoritative standards in the field of quality management for oil and gas equipment manufacturers. In addition, the company was granted the right to use API 5CT and API 5L monograms, confirming the high quality and compliance of products with safety and reliability requirements adopted in the US market.

BSC Commercial Director Vusal Ruzmanov commented on the results of the visit:

"The products manufactured at Azerboru and AzFerAl sites are highly competitive in foreign markets. The assignment of API monograms has opened up new opportunities for us to enter the US market. Given the favorable customs conditions, we plan to significantly intensify exports in this direction".

The US Embassy in Azerbaijan also expressed its official position by publishing the following statement:

"The US Embassy's economic team in Baku visited the Baku Steel Company's pipe rolling facility in Sumgayit, where seamless pipes are manufactured and exported to the United States for use in our oil and gas industry. The delegation also inspected the ferroalloy plant that supplies materials to American steel manufacturers. The United States looks forward to expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan to stimulate economic growth and mutual prosperity".
