WUF13 taking place in Baku continues to remain in the spotlight of global media
The Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) is in the spotlight of global media.
As Azertag reports, an article published in The Europe Today under the headline "Azerbaijan Demonstrates Global Vision for Urban Development: Record-Breaking WUF13 Takes Place in Baku" emphasizes the significance of the forum hosted by Azerbaijan's capital. It is noted that the large-scale international event is viewed as another important milestone for Azerbaijan, which is becoming a center of global dialogue, international cooperation, as well as major cultural and sporting events.
"To ensure the successful organization of WUF13, Azerbaijani authorities established a special Organizing Committee responsible for overseeing preparations, infrastructure development, logistics, transport, security, and coordination with international partners. Officials stated that the decision to hold the forum in Azerbaijan reflects the high level of international confidence in the country's ability to organize major global events, as well as recognition of its modern urban planning policies," the article emphasizes.
It is noted that urban planning and sustainable development have been identified by President Ilham Aliyev as key strategic priorities of Azerbaijan's socio-economic agenda. The authorities also stated that preserving architectural heritage while developing modern urban ecosystems remains one of the fundamental principles of state policy. The declaration of 2026 in Azerbaijan as the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture" once again underscores the importance attached to this area.
"One of the most remarkable venues of the forum was the Urban Exhibition Zone covering 3.5 hectares — the largest exhibition ever organized in the history of WUF. The exhibition features 217 organizations from around the world, with 66 countries represented by national pavilions showcasing innovative urban solutions, housing projects, and sustainable development initiatives.
To ensure a richer program, the organizers created an open-air venue, the 'WUF13 Boulevard,' covering 2.5 hectares, designed for cultural leisure, recreation, and gastronomic events reflecting the atmosphere of modern urban life. Volunteers play a central role during the event, assisting participants with registration, information support, logistics, exhibition coordination, and cultural event management."
In conclusion, the article emphasizes that the successful hosting of WUF13 demonstrates Azerbaijan's growing contribution to addressing global urban challenges and promoting safe, sustainable, and inclusive cities worldwide.
In an article by the authoritative Chinese publication China Daily under the headline "Shanghai Award Presented at the 13th World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan," it is noted that the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities, or the Shanghai Award, was presented at the 13th World Urban Forum in Baku through a series of events and exhibitions dedicated to global achievements, innovative practices, and a shared vision for sustainable urban development. It is emphasized that the award aims to stimulate concrete actions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the New Urban Agenda, as well as strengthening experience exchange and multilateral cooperation between cities.
