Verdict handed down for defendants accused of attempting to organize a march with USSR flags in Baku

The criminal trial of Abdullah Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, Elchin Bayramli, and Mehman Zeynalov, who were accused of spreading materials promoting communist ideology on social media and attempting to organize a march with USSR flags in Baku, has concluded.

As reported by APA, the verdict was announced at a session of the Nizami District Court.

According to the court's decision, I. Asadli and A. Ibrahimli were sentenced to two years of imprisonment, while E. Bayramli and M. Zeynalov were given sentences of one and a half years in prison.

It should be recalled that in November of last year, videos spread on social media showing a group of individuals attempting to hold a march with USSR flags for the purpose of promoting communist ideology.

As a result of operational measures carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspected organizers of the action were identified and detained — Abdullah Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, Elchin Bayramli, and Mehman Zeynalov. By court order, each of them was placed under a preventive measure of arrest for a period of three months.

The defendants were charged under Article 233 (organization of actions contributing to the disruption of public order or active participation in such actions) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
