Vector - Baku: How EU Policy Is Changing
Geopolitical processes rarely follow declarations - the logic of specific steps reveals them far more accurately. That is precisely why the recent visit of the European Commission President to the Azerbaijani capital, which followed immediately after the European Council President's trip, should be perceived not as a protocol event, but as an acknowledgment of a shift in Brussels' strategic course.
For a long time, the European Union adhered to a model of "equidistance" from the parties to the Karabakh settlement, viewing the region through the prism of balance between two states. This logic ceased to correspond to reality after Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and initiated the formation of a new security architecture in the South Caucasus by launching the signing of a peace treaty with Armenia. The question of "who is right" gave way to another one: who is actually capable of guaranteeing the sustainability of the new regional system - in terms of transport, energy, and politics.
