The second meeting of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Supreme Interstate Council was held in Baku

On July 2, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the second meeting of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Supreme Interstate Council was held.

As reported by BAKU.WS, speaking at the meeting, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said:

- Dear Shavkat Miromonovich, dear brother, once again welcome to Azerbaijan. I welcome you and the members of the delegation.

I am confident that the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan will become another important stage in the development of brotherly relations between our countries. We are friends, brothers, and already allies since the signing of the Treaty on Allied Relations. Last year in Tashkent, we officially became allies. The Treaty on Allied Relations is the highest form of interstate relations.

Today, within the framework of the second meeting of the Interstate Council, we will hear reports, give further instructions on the implementation of the decisions we have made, and determine the program of activities for at least the next few months.

Our countries are united by history, culture, linguistic commonality, and ethnic closeness. This is a solid foundation. We are building a wonderful edifice of Uzbek-Azerbaijani brotherhood. I would like to thank you for your attention to our country.

Regular contacts are carried out at the level of government members and heads of various structures. Recently, another Intergovernmental Commission was held. Today, as I have already said, we will hear the results. In principle, I am sure they will please us. But, as we agreed and instructed the members of our governments, we control all decisions and their implementation.

I would also like to congratulate brotherly Uzbekistan on the historic event - the Uzbekistan national football team's qualification for the World Cup finals. This is the second historic achievement in sports in recent times after the Summer Olympics, when Uzbekistan was among the world's leading sports powers. This achievement also speaks of the enormous potential - human potential, the potential of youth, and, of course, the correct policy of the state and the President. We rejoiced as if it were our own success. I am sure that you will represent Azerbaijan there as well.

Of course, our relations in recent years, as you just said, are reaching a completely different level. We have real successes. As you said, we are already allies. That says it all. Of course, we are two close nations and we have a lot in common in history, very much in common in spirit, in customs, in views, the same language, the same culture, we resolve many issues. Today in a narrow circle, we recalled our history a lot. Of course, a lot has been missed. But we are catching up with you.
