On June 1, a meeting of delegations was held on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the "Astara" state border crossing point, headed by the Chief of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, and the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Iran's Law Enforcement Forces, Major General Qasem Rezaei.

As reported to BAKU.WS by the press center of the State Border Service, during the meeting, the current situation on the Azerbaijani-Iranian state border and at border crossing points, measures to ensure border security, the organization of protection of the liberated section of the Azerbaijani-Iranian state border freed from occupation, as well as ongoing work on establishing new transport and communication links between the East Zangezur Economic Region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were discussed.

During the discussions, the dynamics of cooperation development between the border agencies of the two countries was highly appreciated. The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation in combating smuggling, illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as other manifestations of cross-border crime.

The meeting participants noted that holding such events makes an important contribution to the development of ties between border structures and the strengthening of mutual cooperation.
