Assistant to the Russian President Yuri Ushakov announced that Russia and the United States are preparing for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump. It will be organized if necessary.

Ushakov stated: "This topic is being discussed with the Americans. We are preparing for the meeting, and it will be organized as soon as there is a need for it. For now, contacts are ongoing at other levels."

Preparation for a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump began in February. On February 12, the first telephone conversation between the leaders of Russia and the United States in several years took place, as well as several meetings between Russian and American delegations.

On March 13 in Moscow, a meeting was held between Putin and US Presidential Special Envoy Steven Whitcroft. According to Ushakov, they planned to discuss not only a ceasefire in Ukraine but also issues of developing further relations.

After negotiations with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on March 13, Putin said that he could call Trump to discuss the idea of a ceasefire with Ukraine. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that there is an understanding of the need for dialogue between the presidents on both sides.
