In the latest episode of the program "Karabakh Chronicle" on Baku TV, the military-strategic significance of Mount Gartiz in the battles for Gubadly and its role in the liberation of the city from occupation is discussed.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the material notes that Gubadly, occupied in August 1993, had been transformed over 27 years of occupation into one of the key defensive strongpoints of the Armenian armed forces. A military base was established at the entrance to the city, fortifications were erected in the village of Khanlyg, and firing positions were set up on the surrounding heights.

After the liberation of Jabrayil in October 2020, the advance of the Azerbaijani army in the southern direction created conditions for approaching Gubadly. At this stage, heavy battles were fought for the Yazy plain and heights No. 831 and 833.

It is emphasized that the liberation of the city of Zangilan on October 20 opened additional opportunities for advancing toward Gubadly from the south. The offensive, developing from the eastern and southern directions, intensified pressure on the defense system of Armenian forces. Mount Gartiz, at a height of 1,277 meters, occupied a key position that allowed observation of the adjacent territories, roads to the city, and part of the border zone with Armenia. Control over this height made it possible to monitor the movement of enemy personnel and equipment, detect the movement of reserves, and prevent possible counterattacks.

It is noted that despite the attempts of the Armenian command to transfer additional forces to Gubadly, artillery strikes, the loss of control over important roads, and difficulties in committing reserves to battle weakened their defensive potential. As a result, on October 25, 2020, the Azerbaijani army liberated the city of Gubadly from occupation, and the state flag of Azerbaijan was raised over the city.
