Leyla Aliyeva participated in the opening ceremony of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Center at the Liv Bona Dea Hospital
On December 11, the Bone Marrow Transplantation Center was opened at the Liv Bona Dea Hospital.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to AZERTAJ, the opening ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, and the Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev.
Leyla Aliyeva first visited a young patient undergoing treatment at the hospital under the patronage of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, inquired about his health condition, and presented him with a gift.
Then the opening of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Center took place.
The new center will perform bone marrow transplant operations for both adults and children. The center has 6 specialized isolation rooms. This infrastructure allows for receiving and treating 80 patients per year.
It was noted that currently, an 8-bed hematology department is available to hospital patients. All rooms in the department are equipped with a modern HEPA air filtration system, which provides maximum protection for patients against infections. Chemotherapeutic drugs are prepared in biological safety cabinets, and cell collection is carried out in an independent apheresis department.
At the same time, the Blood Bank has the capability to prepare erythrocytes, platelets, plasma, and other components, including obtaining granulocyte suspension. To ensure recipient safety, regular radiation therapy and filtration procedures are conducted.
It should be noted that the Bone Marrow Transplantation Center was opened on the basis of a license issued in accordance with the decree on amendments to the "List of specialized medical institutions performing donor organ transplantation," approved by the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution dated August 20, 2021.
As a reminder, bone marrow and stem cell transplantation is a modern and effective medical procedure used in the treatment of various hematological and oncological diseases. Stem cells are obtained from the patient (autologous) or from a donor (allogeneic) and transplanted into the body after high-dose chemotherapy. The goal is to replace the affected bone marrow with healthy cells and restore the process of hematopoiesis.
