In the CIS, 2028 will be dedicated to quality of life, and 2029 to transport connectivity
The year 2028 has been declared the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life within the CIS, and 2029 has been declared the Year of Transport Connectivity.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, the corresponding decision was adopted on October 9 at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
The initiative to declare 2028 the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life belongs to the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan.
Its implementation is aimed at strengthening cooperation among Commonwealth states in the sphere of social support for the population, developing active measures in the labor market, and improving the well-being and quality of life of citizens.
During 2028, events are planned to promote sustainable social development and improve the quality of life. They include improving the regulatory framework in the social and labor sphere, implementing pilot projects, disseminating best practices in social support for the population, as well as holding international forums and dialogue platforms on issues of legal, socio-economic, and demographic policy.
The initiative to declare 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity of the CIS belongs to Turkmenistan.
This decision was a logical continuation of the implementation of the goals outlined in the Concept of Turkmenistan's Chairmanship of the CIS in 2026 and the action plan for its implementation.
Transport connectivity within the Commonwealth involves the development of infrastructure, coordination of various modes of transport, digitalization of the sector, and ensuring the safety of transportation. These measures are designed to promote economic integration, strengthen foreign trade ties, and ensure sustainable development of the region.
As part of its chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, Turkmenistan pays special attention to the development of economic cooperation and transport interconnectivity, including creating conditions for the full realization of the logistics and infrastructure potential of the Commonwealth states.
Key areas of cooperation include the development of transport connectivity, joining efforts to create sustainable and accessible transport and transit corridors, including for landlocked states, as well as expanding multilateral cooperation in the Caspian region.
These areas are in line with the global sustainable development agenda and are linked to the initiative to proclaim the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026-2035.
