Ilham Aliyev met with families who moved to the first residential complex in Zangilan

On May 10, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with families who moved into the first residential complex in the city of Zangilan and handed them the keys to their apartments.

- Today is a wonderful, momentous day for the residents of Zangilan. After a long break, you are returning to your native land — to the city of Zangilan. I sincerely congratulate you on this occasion.

Today is the birthday of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and the fact that our meeting is taking place on this very day certainly holds symbolic significance. The greatest dream of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was the liberation of our native lands from occupation. We — his followers — have fulfilled his testament. Today, every inch of land on the territory of Azerbaijan belongs to the Azerbaijani people. Having expelled the occupiers from our lands, we restored our territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The role of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the history of Azerbaijan is indisputable. Thanks to his activities, Azerbaijan was able to preserve its independence during difficult times. As you know — the older generation remembers those years well — in 1993, not only our territorial integrity but also our independence was under threat. The people who were leading our country at that time were driving it toward catastrophe. The occupation of our lands, the Armenian occupation of the city of Shusha, Lachin, Kalbajar, internal strife, lawlessness, anarchy, as well as the beginning of civil war as a result of the provocative and treasonous actions of the then authorities — our young independent Azerbaijani state was essentially on the verge of collapse. If Heydar Aliyev had not come to power at the demand of the people at that time, the fate of our people and state could have been very dire. It was precisely thanks to his activities that all negative tendencies were put to an end, the civil war was stopped, phenomena such as lack of governance and lawlessness were eliminated, stability was established in our country, development began, and gradually — army building. Before his arrival in Azerbaijan, we essentially did not have a regular army, and that is precisely why we suffered defeat in the First Karabakh War.
