Azerbaijan has been working on the Middle Corridor since gaining independence.

As reported by AZERTAC, this was stated by Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev during his online speech at the Trans-Caspian Forum.

According to him, after the settlement of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the establishment of peace in the region, new dimensions and new opportunities emerged in Azerbaijan's foreign policy, and it expanded toward new geographical spaces.

"Azerbaijan is a South Caucasus country. At the same time, we belong to the Central Asian family and the Caspian Sea region. Azerbaijan has identities connected to Europe and the Middle East. All these values do not contradict each other but complement one another. After the settlement of the conflict with Armenia, Azerbaijan transitioned to the concept of a 'middle power.' For us, the concept of a 'middle power' is measured not only by size, economy, and population. It is a network of partnerships among countries," H. Hajiyev added.
