Haber Global: The 111th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Çanakkale was celebrated in Baku
A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Çanakkale was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The ceremony, held at the memorial to fallen Turkish soldiers, was attended by the head of the Turkish diplomatic mission Birol Akgün, embassy counselors, military representatives, staff of Turkish institutions and organizations in Baku, as well as citizens of the Republic of Turkey.
This was reported by the Haber Global TV channel.
"The outstanding triumph achieved 111 years ago in the Battle of Çanakkale against the most powerful armies in the world amid a shortage of resources has been forever inscribed in Turkish history in golden letters.
Remembering the hundreds of thousands of heroes who sacrificed themselves at Çanakkale, I would like to pay tribute with deep gratitude to the brave servicemen of the Turkish army who fell in the struggle for the freedom of brotherly Azerbaijan, where they went to help. We also honor all Azerbaijani soldiers who died in the name of Turkey's independence, fighting shoulder to shoulder with Turkish soldiers during our war of liberation," the TV channel quotes Birol Akgün as saying.
As a reminder, on March 18, Turkey marks the 111th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Çanakkale — one of the largest and bloodiest battles of World War I. The battle is considered one of the bloodiest in Turkey's history.
