The COP chairmanship troika - Azerbaijan, Brazil, and Turkey - will lead the Global Implementation Accelerator (GIA) initiative, adopted as a result of the COP30 climate conference in Belém, Brazil.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was announced in Brussels by the European Union (EU) official representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

According to her, the Global Implementation Accelerator is one of the follow-up processes after the latest Conference of the Parties on combating climate change - COP30.

"The EU has a clear path to climate neutrality by 2050. Therefore, we are ready and willing to help in this work depending on how the troika will advance the work within this accelerator," said Itkonen.

She noted that COP30 has concluded and delegations have already begun working on further actions within the climate agenda. "Most delegations and negotiators have just returned home and started thinking about what specific steps to propose. This applies to the European Commission as well," emphasized Itkonen.

Recall that the Global Implementation Accelerator is designed to select universal measures to combat climate change that can be scaled across different regions of the world. The priorities are methane emissions reduction, natural carbon removal mechanisms, renewable energy sources, and clean technologies.
