Aykhan Hajizade called for stopping the linking of Russian-Armenian relations with Azerbaijan

The latest statements by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, regarding the former Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict distort reality.

This was stated to BAKU.WS by the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizade, commenting on Zakharova's words.

According to him, the Karabakh region has always been recognized by the international community, including the Russian Federation, as an integral part of Azerbaijan.

"For this reason, the attempt to constantly keep on the agenda the issue of applying the mechanisms of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with regard to the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan that were under Armenian occupation for 30 years, and linking this to the question of recognition or non-recognition of the Karabakh region by Armenia, apart from contradicting the official position of the Russian side regarding the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, is also absolutely groundless," Hajizade stated.

The Foreign Ministry representative added that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with the requirements of international law, and thereby the former conflict was resolved:

"In this regard, it is necessary to stop the practice of interpreting issues of Russian-Armenian relations in connection with Azerbaijan."

It should be noted that on July 27, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, speaking at the youth forum "Gvardeysk," stated: "There was a situation with Armenia, which said: 'Let's activate the CSTO mechanism.' But essentially — against whom and regarding what? That territory, Karabakh, which Armenia itself recognized neither as its own nor as independent. Under such conditions, the use of the CSTO collective security mechanism was impossible."
