The Baku-Agdam railway route will be extended to Khankendi

As part of large-scale development projects of Azerbaijan Railways, a significant expansion of passenger services is planned. The Baku-Agdam passenger route will be extended to Khankendi in the near future. The launch of new trains is scheduled for the end of next year, which will lead to the creation of additional stopping points.
Transport expert Rauf Agamirzaev told BAKU.WS that in the future, stations in Askeran, Khojaly, and Khankendi will appear on the route. In parallel, the Horadiz-Agbend railway project is being implemented, with completion expected next year. Additionally, the opening of routes in the direction of Minjivan is planned, which will significantly increase mobility and accessibility of transport connections in the region.
The expert also noted the advantages of Stadler trains. According to him, these trains are distinguished by a high level of comfort and inclusivity for passengers. Currently, double-decker Stadler KISS and single-decker FLIRT trains are operating in Azerbaijan. The delivery of 20 more new trains is expected. In connection with this, platform reconstruction work is being carried out at stations.
Rauf Agamirzaev emphasized that significant work is also being done in the field of railway electrification. On the Hajigabul-Ujar section, a transition to alternating current has been provided, which helps reduce freight transportation costs and increase travel speed. The next stage plans for a transition to alternating current on the Baku-Hajigabul routes and the Absheron ring line. Simultaneously, the modernization of communication and signaling systems continues.
