Azerbaijan is discussing with partners the possibilities of expanding the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) in order to increase gas supplies to Europe.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf during a panel session within the framework of the Baku Energy Week.

According to him, for the project to be implemented, it is important that European partners commit to long-term gas purchase contracts and participate in financing the expansion works.

He added that Azerbaijan is currently implementing a number of projects aimed at increasing gas production.

"The 'Shah Deniz Compression' project is currently ongoing. Along with this, the first free natural gas production from the 'Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli' (ACG) field has begun. The 'Babek' structure, the full-scale development of the 'Absheron' field, and other projects will allow additional gas volumes to be brought to the market in the coming years. These volumes will be directed both toward meeting the country's domestic demand and expanding export capabilities."

Najaf noted that Azerbaijan will continue to increase gas production in the long term and play an important role in strengthening the energy security of the countries in the region.
