The United States has suspended sanctions against Syria for 180 days in order to provide Damascus with electricity, water, and humanitarian aid.
This is stated in the text of a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, published by the State Department.
"In accordance with the president's promise to ease sanctions in Syria, I have issued a 180-day exemption from mandatory sanctions. These exemptions will help provide electricity, water, and sanitation, and will allow more effective delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Syria," the statement says.
