UN Secretary-General condemned the Russian attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kyiv
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Russian attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, reminding of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Report, this was stated by the Secretary-General's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric during a regular briefing.
"The Secretary-General strongly condemns today's large-scale missile strikes and drone attacks by the Russian Federation on several regions of Ukraine, which reportedly killed at least six people in Kyiv and two people in the city of Chernomorsk. It is also reported that numerous civilians were injured in the attack, damage was caused to residential buildings and energy infrastructure facilities, as well as to the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kyiv," emphasized Dujarric.
He noted that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are violations of international humanitarian law.
"They (the attacks - ed.) are unacceptable wherever they occur and must be stopped immediately. The Secretary-General recalls the principle of inviolability of diplomatic premises," said Guterres' spokesperson.
The Secretary-General, as Dujarric pointed out, again calls for a complete, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire as the first step towards a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine, affirming Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UN resolutions.
