Two years have passed since the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, in Kahramanmaras province and surrounding areas of Turkey.

According to Baku.ws, as a result of earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, according to updated data, 53,537 people died, and another 107,213 were injured.

The natural disaster caused major destruction in 11 provinces, 124 districts, almost 7,000 villages and neighborhoods, directly affecting 14 million people. Turkish authorities called it the "disaster of the century."

About 39,000 buildings were destroyed, with search and rescue operations conducted in 26,000 of them. Among the deceased were four Azerbaijani students.

In the first hours after the terrible tragedy, Azerbaijani rescuers were dispatched to the earthquake zone. At the same time, our citizens supported the brotherly nation with financial means and donations.

Azerbaijan's aid to Turkey affected by the natural disaster continued throughout the following year. In Turkish Kahramanmaras, which was severely affected by the devastating earthquake, the construction of the Azerbaijani quarter is nearing completion. A total of 1,323 apartments have been built and 799 jobs created on an area of 320 hectares. Additionally, 1,318 shops have been built, and the construction of 464 offices is close to completion. In the near future, new apartments will be distributed among earthquake victims through a lottery system.
