Turkey expects the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza to begin in early 2026.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Reuters agency, this was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a press conference in Damascus.

He noted that negotiations with US, Qatar, and Egyptian officials in Miami over the past weekend focused on obstacles to advancing the deal to its next phase.

Fidan also added that the priority is to transfer control of Gaza to pro-Palestinian forces.

Recall that on September 29 of this year, the White House released Trump's "comprehensive plan" aimed at resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The document consists of 20 points and provides for, in particular, the introduction of temporary external governance in the Palestinian enclave and the deployment of international stabilization forces there.

On October 9, the parties to the conflict signed an agreement on the implementation of the first phase of the peace plan. The ceasefire agreement in Gaza came into effect on October 10.
