The US will send a new aircraft carrier to the Middle East

The United States is preparing to deploy the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to the Middle East to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln as part of a scheduled rotation.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the Lincoln has been at sea for more than 250 days and has not made a port call in 200 days, setting a record for the number of consecutive days at sea.

It is noted that the Lincoln's prolonged deployment at sea has already raised concerns in Congress. Senator Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, demanding information about the service conditions on board.

"There have been numerous reports of shortages of essential supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, flight deck safety concerns, and mail system failures that have caused many packages containing essential items sent to the ship to be lost in transit for several months," the congressman stated.

It is reported that the replacement of the aircraft carrier is not directly related to the complaints received about service conditions. According to WSJ, the rotation was planned in advance, before reports of problems on board emerged.
