The US struck three Iranian oil tankers after American ships were shelled
The United States Armed Forces struck three Iranian oil tankers after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two American warships.
This was announced by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on the social media platform X.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes on the three Iranian tankers were a response to the IRGC's attack on American ships. The Commander of U.S. Central Command, Brad Cooper, stated that Washington intends to respond to the attacks by increasing the economic costs for Iran.
"If you shoot at two of our ships, we will inflict even greater economic damage by destroying three of yours," Cooper said.
Other details of the operation, including information about possible casualties and the extent of damage to the vessels, have not yet been provided.
