The son of Harald, Haakon, became the King of Norway.

Following the death of King Harald V, his son Haakon became the new monarch of Norway.

As reported by BAKU.WS, Report states that Norwegian media have announced this.

It is reported that the flag has been raised at the Royal Palace in honor of the new king.

"A few minutes earlier, together with the new Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, he held an extraordinary Cabinet meeting with government representatives," the media report.

During the meeting, Haakon officially informed the government of the death of Harald V and of his accession to the throne. He also announced his chosen royal name and motto.

The country's government declared a national mourning period, which will last until the end of Harald V's funeral.
