Newly elected President of Colombia Abelardo de la Espriella announced his intention to close the country's embassies in 15 states, including Azerbaijan, as part of the optimization of government spending.

As local media report, he made this statement in a televised address.

According to him, from the moment he takes office, at least 15 diplomatic missions will be closed in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Hungary, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Romania, Senegal, and South Africa. The process of opening a diplomatic mission in Palestine has also been suspended.

It should be recalled that De la Espriella won the presidential elections in Colombia in June of this year and will officially take office on August 7.
