The first court hearing in the case of Nicolas Maduro took place

The first court hearing in the case of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who appeared before an American court in New York, has concluded.

As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Fox News, it lasted about 30 minutes.

At the end of the hearing, Maduro stated that he had not seen the indictment and was not aware of his rights. The court scheduled the next hearing in his case for March 17.

Maduro's lawyer noted that he is not currently petitioning for his client's release on bail. However, such a petition will be filed later.

Maduro's wife, Cilia Flores, may have suffered broken ribs during her capture by American law enforcement, her lawyer stated during the hearing. "Mark Donnelly said that, 'as you can see,' Flores received 'serious injuries during her kidnapping.' He suggested that she has fractured or seriously bruised ribs and will require medical examination," CNN reports.

It is also noted that the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York agreed to allow Venezuelan consular officials to visit Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.
