The Dalai Lama made a statement about the appearance of a successor after his death

The 14th Dalai Lama has stated that he will have a successor. This means that the institution of lamas will continue to exist.

The recognition of the new reincarnation will be entrusted to the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama, reports RIA Novosti.

According to Buddhist canon, the spiritual leader of Tibetans is considered an incarnation of the bodhisattva of compassion - Avalokiteshvara. In 2025, the 14th Dalai Lama will turn 90, which intensifies interest in the question of his succession.

"In accordance with all these requests, I affirm that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue," – states the announcement published on his website. The Dalai Lama noted that in recent years, representatives of Tibetan spiritual traditions, the parliament in exile, and Buddhists from different countries have approached him with requests to continue the institution.

The 14th Dalai Lama reminded that the procedure for recognizing his successor has already been clearly defined: it is outlined in his statement from September 24, 2011.

The responsibility for selecting the new Dalai Lama is entrusted exclusively to members of the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama. Only this body, the spiritual leader emphasized, will conduct all necessary search and recognition procedures in cooperation with the heads of Buddhist traditions and the guardians of Dharma.
