The painting "Portrait of a Lady" hung above a sofa in the home of the daughter of a high-ranking SS officer in a coastal town in Argentina. The Dutch newspaper AD tracked down the work through a realtor's website - the house was put up for sale, and the stolen painting could be seen in the interior photographs.

The heirs of art dealer and painting owner Jacques Goudstikker intend to recover the canvas. "My search began in the late 1990s, and I haven't given up yet," said 81-year-old Marei von Saher, Goudstikker's daughter-in-law. Goudstikker's art collection was confiscated by the Nazis in 1940 in Amsterdam - of the 1,400 works, more than 200 pieces remain missing.

The homeowner refused to speak with journalists. Experts value the painting at 500,000 euros, but its historical value exceeds its commercial value. The Goudstikker collection is considered a textbook example of Nazi cultural theft - over the past 25 years, the heirs have managed to recover 300 artworks through the courts.
