Severe fatigue is the "signature" symptom of the new coronavirus strain NB.1.8.1, which resembles the "omicron" variant in its characteristics. This information was provided by allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok in an interview with international news agencies.

The specialist noted that the new COVID gene variant was first discovered by scientists in China in January 2025. Currently, a global wave of this strain's spread is being observed. According to Dr. Bolibok, the virus continues to mutate and demonstrates extremely high contagiousness.

"The new coronavirus gene variant NB.1.8.1 is similar to 'omicron'. It began spreading around the world from Southeast Asia, and today it has already been detected in more than 20 countries," said the doctor, noting that infected individuals are present in the USA, Japan, and European countries.

Of particular concern to the medical community is the contagiousness coefficient of this strain, which ranges from 12 to 15. This means that one infected person is potentially capable of infecting up to 15 other people.

Among the main clinical manifestations of the infection, the immunologist highlighted elevated temperature, fever, pain and inflammation in the throat, as well as nasal congestion.

"The signature symptom of this strain is severe fatigue. A person experiences unmotivated weakness. They wake up already without strength," emphasized the doctor.

Medical experts also warn that the new gene variant can cause serious complications, especially in children and patients with chronic respiratory diseases.
