Portugal has been recognized as the best tourist destination in Europe according to the World Travel Awards. According to Dmitry Arutyunov, CEO of Art-Tour company, this is indeed one of the most successful destinations for travelers that has not yet become mainstream.

As BAKU.WS reports with reference to NSN, he called the country an "underrated gem."

The expert noted that Portugal has much to be proud of - rich culture and history, magnificent wine regions and unique resorts such as Madeira. At the same time, the flow of tourists there is still relatively small, as the country remains underappreciated among travelers.

"Everyone goes to Spain, but those in the know choose Portugal," emphasized Arutyunov. "The country received the award not for the number of tourists, but for its character and special atmosphere that hasn't yet been appreciated by mass tourists."

According to him, today the most popular tourist destinations in Europe remain France, Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
