In the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, another 1387 cases of chikungunya fever have been detected. This was reported on the official website of the Wuhan city administration.

The largest number of infected (1212) was detected in the city of Foshan, which was the epicenter of the disease in early July. In Guangzhou province, 103 cases of the disease were recorded.

The publication states that the total number of detected fever cases in southern China has exceeded 8,000. The press service added that enhanced measures aimed at destroying mosquitoes that carry the virus are in effect in the region.

Kang Min, Director of the Institute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, noted that the rapid growth of infections in the city of Foshan was initially contained, and recent prevention results have been further strengthened.
