Media: US withdrawing its diplomats from Lebanon
The U.S. State Department has ordered American diplomats and their families to leave Lebanon. The reason for this is the growing tension in relations with Iran.
This was confirmed by a State Department official in a conversation with the AP agency.
According to the information, the assessment of the security situation in the region showed that it is "advisable" to reduce the presence of the U.S. embassy. Only absolutely essential personnel should remain on site.
According to media reports, this step indicates that the U.S. considers a larger-scale conflict possible in the event of a military escalation with Iran - in particular, that Hezbollah militants may intervene and Israel may strike Lebanese territory in response.
