Media: Trump toughened the terms of the US-Iran memorandum

U.S. President Donald Trump tightened the terms of the draft agreement on resolving the conflict with Iran and sent new proposals to Tehran for consideration. This was reported on May 30 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

The exact changes made to the text of the potential agreement are unknown, but the publication's sources indicated that Trump is concerned about provisions related to the possible unfreezing of Iranian assets. In addition, the American leader believes that Iran is not responding quickly enough to U.S. proposals.

According to one unnamed American official, Trump tightened the terms in an attempt to speed up the negotiation process and, by putting pressure on Iran, to persuade it to accept the initial draft memorandum, which had previously been sent for approval to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

The newspaper recalls that on May 29, Trump held a two-hour meeting with advisers in the White House Situation Room devoted to the conflict with Iran, but upon its conclusion did not announce any decision on the deal.
