Media: The US intends to take control of Kharg
The United States has accelerated the process of deploying Marine Corps and Navy units to the Middle East with the aim of taking control of Iran's Kharg Island.
This was reported by The Jerusalem Post, citing sources.
According to the publication, senior American officials have informed their counterparts in Israel and other countries in recent days that Washington may have no choice but to launch a ground military operation to seize Kharg Island.
One American official confirmed to The Jerusalem Post that the U.S. military is accelerating the deployment of thousands of Marines and Navy personnel to the Middle East.
Earlier, Axios reported that the U.S. administration is considering options to capture or isolate Kharg Island — the main hub for Iranian oil exports. According to the portal, Washington hopes to thereby force Iran to "open" the Strait of Hormuz.
