Russia is likely preparing to test the newest nuclear-powered cruise missile "Burevestnik" (NATO classification - SSC-X-9 Skyfall).

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Reuters, this was announced by two American researchers and a source in Western security services. According to their data, preparations for the launch are being conducted at the time when Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning talks on Ukraine with US President Donald Trump on Friday.

This conclusion was reached by Jeffrey Lewis from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies and Decker Evelet from the CNA think tank, after studying satellite images from Planet Labs taken over the Pankovo test site on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

"We see significant activity at the test site - delivery of large quantities of supplies and movements in the immediate missile launch area," Lewis noted.

The images show an increase in personnel and equipment, as well as the presence of aircraft and ships that previously participated in "Burevestnik" tests. Two aircraft equipped to collect data on missile tests have been at Rogachevo airfield since mid-July. A source in Western security services confirmed that the test could take place as early as this week.

Vladimir Putin previously called the "Burevestnik" "invulnerable" to existing and prospective missile defense systems, with virtually unlimited flight range.

There are no official confirmations of preparations for the test, and Russia has not yet commented on the Reuters reports.
