It has become known how many years obesity shortens life

Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko reported that excess weight significantly reduces life expectancy. According to him, people with a body mass index of 30 to 35 have their expected life expectancy reduced by 2-4 years, and with an index above 40, losses can reach up to 10 years. He stated this during the SPIEF session "Food Security of Russia: Challenges and Strategies," reports RIA Novosti.
Murashko emphasized that these figures cause serious concern. He noted that excess weight provokes the development of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease and hypertension.
According to the minister, all this creates additional burdens on the healthcare system. "We are observing an overexpenditure of resources on treating diseases that in some cases could have been avoided or delayed," he explained.
