About 600 soldiers from North Korea died during combat operations in the Kursk region of Russia.

According to South Korean intelligence, approximately 15,000 military personnel from North Korea were sent to the conflict zone in Ukraine and adjacent regions. Total casualties among them amounted to about 4,700 people, including both wounded and dead.
Member of the South Korean parliamentary intelligence committee Lee Sung-kwon noted that the level of training of North Korean fighters has significantly increased since the beginning of their participation in combat operations. According to him, they have become more effective in handling modern weapons, including drones.
Earlier, on April 26, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin about the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian formations. At that time, the participation of North Korean military in operations on the territory of the region was also confirmed.
President Putin emphasized that the involvement of soldiers from North Korea took place within the framework of international law and in accordance with the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty concluded between Russia and North Korea in June 2024.
