Is the plague spreading again?
A person vacationing at a campsite in the Lake Tahoe area in California (USA) has contracted plague.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to foreign media, the disease was most likely transmitted through the bite of an infected flea. Currently, the patient is receiving treatment at home, and their condition is under careful observation.
According to information, an average of 7 cases of plague are registered annually in the USA.
It is worth noting that plague is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis and is spread primarily through flea bites or contact with infected animals. With early diagnosis, the disease can be treated with antibiotics.
Experts recommend that people and pets be especially careful in areas where wild rodents live.
