Iran announced a strike on an American oil tanker off the coast of Kuwait
Iran's armed forces attacked an American oil tanker near the coast of Kuwait.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the SNN television channel, this was announced by Iran's military command headquarters "Khatam al-Anbiya."
According to Iranian military personnel, a fire broke out on the vessel. The extent of the damage has not been specified. The report also did not indicate when the tanker was struck.
Around the same time, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an explosion on a tanker north of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz after it was hit by "six unknown projectiles."
The Strait of Hormuz is the only exit route for energy exports from the Persian Gulf countries. Up to 15% of the world's oil supplies and 20% of LNG pass through this route. After the start of the U.S. and Israeli military operation against Iran on February 28, the republic began restricting tanker passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Republic also promised to burn vessels of "adversary nations" attempting to cross the route.
