In Iran, the name of the country's new supreme leader has been officially announced
The Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran has elected Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the country.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by the Mehr agency.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of the slain Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei.
Earlier, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, Hossein Ali Eshkevari, stated that the new Supreme Leader would bear the surname Khamenei. Eshkevari added that the new leader had already been elected and his name would soon be officially announced.
As a reminder, on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked targets in Israel, announcing the beginning of a large-scale retaliatory operation. Strikes also targeted U.S. facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Iranian authorities officially confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on March 1. It is noted that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 at his residence as a result of a joint U.S.-Israeli attack.
